Personal Details


Richard Berry worked in policing and wider security settings for over 30 years, including a decade as a chief officer. His interests are complex adaptive systems, capability leadership, the challenges of probabilistic data, systemic ailments and diagnostic praxis, strategic security transformations and cybernetic gaming pedagogies.

He gained profound investigative and strategic command experience as a practitioner, maintaining a keen interest in digital investigations. Richard has advised on diverse activities including UN initiatives on human trafficking, the London Olympics and specialist capability developments. He established the first Independent Digital Ethics Panel for Policing (IDEPP) and professional oversight for highly regulated capabilities. He formed a specialist equities portfolio for UK policing and has given evidence to various Parliamentary committees. His doctorate founded Security Cybernetics and he is a Fellow of the Cybernetics Society.
